Forming Fabric for Pulp and Board Machines

Pulp board forming fabric supports the wet fiber web while water is removed in the forming section. Its structure influences drainage, fiber retention, sheet profile, fabric cleanliness and machine runnability. The paper side must support the fibers and limit marking, while the machine side must provide stability and resistance to mechanical wear.

Fabric selection depends on the forming configuration, furnish, basis weight, machine speed and dewatering load. Open area and permeability must support drainage without creating excessive fiber loss or an uneven sheet. Dimensional stability, seam design and cleanability are also important for consistent operation.
